The Challenge We’re Solving Today
What do you write on LinkedIn when you’re switching careers?
Alyssa’s headline used to say:
“Former Teacher Seeking Opportunities.”
It was honest—but no one messaged her.
After we made three simple changes, recruiters started sending messages within a few days.
Common Solutions and Why They Might Not Work
Here are three things that don’t usually work well:
-
Saying you're looking for a job but not showing why you’d be great at it
-
Talking only about job duties, not results
-
Writing like a résumé instead of making it easy to read quickly
These things don’t help a recruiter understand how you could help their team.
A Better Approach for You
Here’s what we changed for Alyssa—and how you can do it too:
✅ Headline: We made it stronger and clearer
Before: Former Teacher Seeking Opportunities
After: Customer Success | EdTech Specialist | 10+ Yrs Solving Engagement + Adoption Challenges at Scale
✅ Summary: We added one strong sentence with results
We added this one outcome-led sentence:
→ “Trained 300+ students and parents on digital tools, reducing tech-related support requests by over 40%.”
✅ Experience: We helped connect her teaching to her new career
To connect the dots, we opened her most recent role with:
→ “After 10+ years leading instruction and stakeholder communication in K–12, I now bring those skills to customer onboarding, implementation, and ongoing support.”
These changes didn’t change who Alyssa is.
They just helped her sound like someone a company would want to hire.
Try This: Your LinkedIn Profile Mini-Makeover
You can make these changes too! Here's a simple activity to help you get started.
🔹 Step 1: Rewrite Your Headline
Write a headline that shows what kind of job you want and what you’re good at.
Try this format:
[Target Role or Function] | [Industry or Specialty] | [Key Skills or Impact Area]
Example:
Before: “Aspiring Project Manager”
After: “Project Coordination | Agile Workflows | Driving On-Time Delivery Across Cross-Functional Teams”
Your Turn:
Write 2–3 options for a stronger headline:
→ __________________________________________________
→ __________________________________________________
🔹 Step 2: Add One Clear, Impactful Line to Your Summary
Think of one thing you did that made a difference. Use numbers if you can.(Hint: Focus on how you helped adults, not children)
Example:
“Trained 300+ students and families on digital tools, reducing tech-related support requests by over 40%.”
Your Turn:
Try writing one metrics-based sentence:
→ _________________________________________________
🔹 Step 3: Connect the Dots in Your Experience Section
Explain how your old job taught you skills that match your new one.
Example:
“After 10+ years designing instruction and leading parent communication, I now bring those skills to onboarding, implementation, and customer support in EdTech.”
Your Turn:
Write 2–3 sentences that reframe your experience in a transferable way:
→ __________________________________________________
→ __________________________________________________
These edits take <20 minutes and they can make a big difference in how recruiters perceive your fit.
Summary
- Don’t just say you’re looking for work—show what you offer
