Remote vs Hybrid Jobs — What's Available and What to Do Now
“Where did all the remote jobs go?”
If you’ve been hitting “Remote” in every job filter and still coming up dry… you’re not imagining things.
I hear this every week:
“Steph, I can’t relocate. But every job I’m qualified for says hybrid. What now?”
Here's what I want you to know:
Fully remote roles are down.
But remote-friendly roles? They’re hiding in plain sight.
Let’s make them visible.
Why This Matters to You
Since you're still in the classroom, your schedule isn’t flexible. Sooo, your job search has to be.
You don’t have time to waste chasing roles that look remote but actually require you in office 3x/week.
This is where so many great candidates tap out. Not because they aren’t qualified but because they don’t know how to spot the real opportunities.
The goal this week: learn to spot remote-friendly teams, even if the posting says “hybrid.”
Common Solutions and Why They Might Not Work
What most teachers try:
-
Filtering for jobs labeled “Remote only”
-
Assuming “Hybrid” = must commute
-
Relying on job board filters to tell the full story
Why that breaks down:
Companies are getting vague.
They might say “Hybrid,” but half their team is spread across the country.
If you don’t ask the right question, you’ll never know.
A Better Approach for You
Here’s the smarter move:
-
Search hybrid roles in fields like Implementation, Customer Success, or L&D (or the job you want).
-
Look for distributed teams — multi-location or national coverage.
-
Ask this during networking or interviews:
“Where are your top performers located, and how often do they commute?”
If they say, ‘We have people in 5 states and we’re flexible,’ you’re golden.
If they say, ‘We like folks to come in weekly’? That’s your signal to pass.
It’s not about chasing unicorn jobs.
It’s about qualifying the team, not just the title.
Summary
-
Remote roles = only 13% of job postings right now (Robert Half, Aug 2025)
-
Hybrid is up to 24% — many of those teams are actually flexible
-
Want remote? Ask about team structure, not just location
Your Next Steps (10-Minute Task)
Here’s exactly what to do today:
-
Open LinkedIn or Indeed
-
Search [Role Title] + “Hybrid” + “Education”
-
Open 3 jobs that list multiple locations
-
Write down this networking question:
“Where are your top performers located, and how often do they commute?” -
Save one role that looks promising and get to applying.
