"I'm a teacher. What else can I do?" Stop asking AI this.

Okay. Be honest with me.
At some point you typed this into ChatGPT: "I'm a teacher. What else can I do?"
And it gave you a list. Instructional designer. Corporate trainer. Project coordinator. Customer success.
You felt excited...for about ten minutes.
Then it hit you. That same list would come up for every teacher in your building. Including the one who has coached debate for nine years. And the one who rewrote the whole science curriculum last summer.
Here's the thing, and I say this with love: You just didn't give it anything to work with.
You asked what a teacher can do. So it told you what teachers do.
It has no idea what you have done. Let's fix that this week.
Common Solutions and Why They Won't Work
You tried a fancier prompt.
"Act as an expert career coach who specializes in helping educators transition..."
The answer came back longer. And more confident. And still about a generic teacher.
You uploaded your resume.
Better! Honestly, good instinct. But your resume is already squeezed onto one page. Most of your best stuff never made the cut. You handed over the short version and asked it to guess at the long one.
You started a new chat every time.
Oof. This is the one that costs you the most, and nobody warns you about it. Every new chat forgets you completely. You explain yourself again. It guesses again. You never build on anything.
A Better Approach for You
Think about what's sitting on your computer right this second.
That observation where your principal wrote a whole paragraph about how you handled an upset parent.
The PD you built and ran for forty grown adults.
Three years of committee work nobody else ever wrote down anywhere.
None of that is on your resume. All of it is proof.
So here's what we do instead.
You make one AI project. You put your stuff in it. You tell it how to behave. And then you ask a better question.
Not "what can I do?"
But "here's what I've already done. What does it prove?"
That question has an answer that belongs to you. Nobody else.
What You Need To Do Next:
Give me twenty minutes tonight. That's it.
1. Open one project. Whatever tool you already use has them. ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Copilot call them projects. Gemini calls it a notebook. Don't go shopping for a new one. Name it Proof File.
2. Add three things. Your last evaluation or observation. One email where somebody thanked you. Your current resume.
3. Paste this in:
"You're my assistant for my next career move, and this is your first day. Read everything I add here as your permanent background. Ask me questions before you write anything. Use plain language. Never make up tools, numbers, or accomplishments I haven't given you. Don't give me generic career language that could describe anybody. Start by reading what I added and telling me what else you need."
Then ask it to list everything you've accomplished, with the proof for each one.
Two rules while you do this.
Nothing private goes in. No student data, no details about other people, no personal info.
And this one matters most:
If you can't defend it in an interview, don't leave it in your documents.
P.s.
This email is just a preview... I just added Module 0: Build Your Proof File to the Elevated Career Change Accelerator.
Eleven minutes. Every prompt written out for you. And it sits at the very top now, because everything after it is easier once your proof lives in one place.
Already inside? It's waiting for you. Nothing to buy.
Your experience is the asset. Let's go get it organized.
See you inside.
