Layoffs are happening. So is hiring. What gives?

The Challenge We’re Solving Today
One minute, you see a post about layoffs. The next, someone just got hired. What’s really going on?
It feels confusing. You might be asking, “Should I be worried?” or “Am I doing something wrong?”
This is my simple take on this.
The market is messy right now. But that's business as usual.
Why This Matters to You
It’s easy to think:
“If people are getting laid off, maybe it’s not a good time to look.”
Or,
“If people are getting hired, why not me?”
Neither thought is helpful. What’s happening around you is not about you. This isn’t a sign you’re late or behind.
Common Solutions and Why They Might Not Work
Most people try to do too much when they feel stressed:
-
They apply to 30 jobs in one night.
-
They rewrite their resume 12 times.
-
They wait and hope someone will magically reach out.
None of that works for long. Why? Because it’s exhausting. And confusing. And honestly... it doesn’t feel very good.
What does work? A simple plan that keeps you moving without burning out.
A Better Approach for You
Here’s what I want you to do. Use my 3-lane job search:
-
Apply to roles that match your strengths.
-
Talk to people who work where you want to go.
-
Show what you’re good at (on LinkedIn or in real life).
That’s it. Just 3 ways to keep moving. You don’t have to do all three every day. Touch each one every week, things will start to work.
Your 7-Day Checklist
Each day, do one small thing. That’s it.
Day 1:
Find one job that actually sounds exciting.
Day 2:
Send a message to someone who works at a company you like.
Day 3:
Post something on LinkedIn: a thought, a win, or even a question.
Day 4:
Take a break. Rest is part of the plan.
Day 5:
Apply to one job. Just one.
Day 6:
Text a friend and tell them what you’re looking for. They might help.
Day 7:
Look back. What worked this week? What felt good?
Summary
-
Layoffs and hiring can both be real at the same time. This is business as usual.
-
You’re not behind. You just need a simple, steady plan.
-
The 3-lane method keeps things clear: Apply, Talk, Show.
-
Follow one small action each day for 7 days. Then close your laptop. That counts as progress.
